DPR's Digital Publishing Award Goes International This Year - Publishing Perspectives

Entry is international now.

Today, our inquisitive kitty boy found information at the Publishing Perspectives site about the Digital Publishing Report (DPR)  Award.

 

According to Erin L. Cox's post, the award will now be open internationally. The post contains a list of the judges, the categories and a link to the submission guidelines.

 

Panzer says, "Entry deadline is August 22."

New Talents Among Dagger Champs - The Rap Sheet

Just like catnip, you can never have too much ice cream.

As a followup to the Shirley Jackson Awards competition he told you about, Panzer went to The Rap Sheet site. With just a little digging in the posts there, our speedy little kitty boy found a post about the British Crime Writers Association Dagger Awards.

 

J. Kingston Pierce's post lists the winners of the awards in eleven categories as well as the nominees.

The Shirley Jackson Awards Nominees - Mystery Fanfare

It has been a really, really hot day today.

Panzer made a quick stop at the Mystery Fanfare site today. There he found a post about the Shirley Jackson Awards.

According to the post, the nominees in the awards competition were announced earlier this month. The post lists the nominees in all six categories of the competition. The winners will be announced on July 13.

Today, Panzer made a quick trip to The Rap Sheet site. With a little digging in the posts our illustrious kitty boy found one about the 2024 CrimeFest Awards shortlist.

The Claymore Award Opens

Where is that novel you wrote last year?

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere, when the Panzermobile was shaken by clapping from outside. Following all the noise took our brave kitty pilot to the Killer Nashville site. 

 

There he discovered Killer Nashville has announced the 2024 Claymore Award is open for submissions. The competition is for the first fifty pages of an unpublished novel. The entry deadline is April 1, 2024.

The site has all the submission rules. Also included are testimonials from past winners about the publishing opportunities winning the competition offered them.

Markets and Jobs for Writers - The Practicing Writer

 Panzer stopped in at The Practicing Writer site where he found a post about opportunities for writers

 

The post by Erika Dreifus lists markets and jobs which don't charge any fees for submissions or applications. The list includes markets for short fiction and poetry and competitions, fellowships and jobs for writers. Some do have submission restrictions.

 

Check submission end dates too.

Black Orchid Novella Award Competition

 Panzer was checking his calendar today and our illustrious kitty discovered the Black Orchid Novella Award Competition ends on May 31.

 

Come on! Hurry!

The competition is run by The Wolfe Pack and Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine. Submissions are limited to mystery novellas. This is an international competition. Entries must be submitted by snail mail.

The Glencairn Glass Crime Short Story Competition

 Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he decided to make a stop at The Glencairn Glass site. There he discovered a post about a crime writing competition.

 

According to the post, The Glencairn Glass is made by the Glencairn Crystal company. The Glencairn Crystal company is the McIlvanney Prize and the Bloody Scotland Debut prize sponsor. Both prizes are presented at Bloody Scotland each year.

Now, Glencairn Crystal, Bloody Scotland and Scottish Field Magazine have joined together to sponsor The Glencairn Glass Crime Short Story Competition. The contest is now open for submissions and will close on December 31. The competition is open to writers worldwide. The post includes a link to the complete rules for the competition.

Panzer was just lying down for his evening nap, when he heard clapping and cheering. Hopping in the Panzermobile our kitty pilot followed all the noise to The Rap Sheet site. There he found a post about Amazon Publishing.

Plenty of Plaudits to Go Around - The Rap Sheet

 Panzer made a trip to The Rap Sheet site today. There our intrepid kitty traveler found a post about mystery and thriller writer awards competitions.

 

That's a lot of awards.

According to J. Kingston Pierce's post, there has been a plethora of writers' groups and organizations announcing their awards contests recently. Shortlists of the contenders have been announced for the Crime Writers of Canada, the International Thriller Writers, and the British Crime Writers Association. The contestants and the title of their work for each of the awards for the different organizations are listed in the post and there are links to each organization.

 

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This little kitty didn't know there were that many different mystery and thriller writers."

CWA Margery Allingham Short Mystery Competition - Shots Crime and Thriller Ezine

 

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Shots Crime and Thriller Ezine site. There our inquisitive kitty found a post about a short story mystery competition being sponsored by the Crime Writers' Association (CWA).

 

Can cats enter?  The rules don't say.

According to the post by Oyo Onatade, the CWA Margery Allingham Short Mystery Competition is open for submissions now. The short story mystery entries must be no more than 3500 words and unpublished. Entries must be submitted by February 26, 2021. There is an entry fee. The post includes a link to the CWA's site with all the rules and how to submit.

Panzer says, "The rules say this is an international competition."

"Amazon without Amazon": one-hour book delivery service launched - The Guardian

It's an interesting concept.

Panzer stopped in at The Guardian site today. With no digging at all our big bad kitty found a post about a new Amazon rival service called NearSt.

The post by Alison Flood explains about the start-up NearSt's London book order and deliver service. About 40 London book stores are currently using the platform. The customer places a book order either at the NearSt online site or by Smartphone app. In minutes the order is processed and ready for pickup at the store or one-hour delivery to the customer which ever the customer wants.

Panzer says, "Hmmm ... They don't have to stock inventory because the bookstores have the books. They just have to pay the delivery people. That means pretty low costs to the company. Let's watch this company and see what happens."

Amazon Has Competition From Jet

What do you think will happen?

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard some ooohhing and aaawwing. Following the sound took to the WIRED site.

According to a post there by Brian Barrett, Amazon has some competition in the form of a new company called Jet. Jet will be carrying many of the same products as Amazon, but at a lower price.

Jet charges an annual membership fee, but there's a three-month free trial period to see if you like the products, service and prices they offer. After the three months you can either sign up for the $50 per year membership fee or the $100 per year fee. Not surprisingly, the $100 membership has similar, if not the same, features as Amazon Prime.

Panzer says, "This will either be fun to watch or a great big fizzle."
