Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when the Panzermobile was suddenly shaken by clapping and cheering outside. Following all the noise took our kitty pilot to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) site.

 

There he discovered the SFWA had posted the winners and nominees in the nine Nebula Awards categories.

Must Reada Magazines Statement on Changes Made to Standard Contract in Response to SFWA - File 770

You don't want to mess with writers' groups.

Panzer's second stop in the Catosphere today was at the File 770 site. With a little digging in the posts our inquisitive boy found one about the publisher Must Reads Magazines writers contracts.

 

Mike Glyer's post has Must Reads Magazines direct statement about the contract changes made. 

 

Panzer says, "The publisher received similar push-back from mystery writers groups for the contract for their mystery magazines too."

Estate Planning for Authors and Creatives - Planetside

You know, you can't hide from it.

Panzer found this post on the PlanetSide blog at the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) site. It's about the uncomfortable subject of estate plans for after your death.

 

In the post Brenda W. Clough covers the reasons authors and creatives need to have their estates in order before something happens to them.

Moral Rights: What Writers Need to Know - Planetside

Do you know what they are?

Today, Panzer stopped in at Planetside the online magazine of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA).

 

There he found a post by Victoria Strauss ((of Writer Beware (R))about moral rights in relationship to copyright. This is an exhaustive look at moral rights and what they cover and don't cover in the U.S.A. in comparison to other countries.

SFWA: In My House There Are Many Issues - File 770

Watch where you step.

Panzer likes to follow the sci fi and fantasy news, so today he made a trip to the File 770 site. There our inquisitive kitty boy found a post about the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) and recent problems with resignations and terminations.

 

The post addresses a list of "issues" within the SFWA. One of the first major "issues" discussed is the lack of transparency within the group, probably caused by NDA's. The list is actually very long, so you'll need to read the post to see what's happening.

Artificial Intelligence and Copyright: SFWA's Comments to the US Copyright Office - Writer Beware(R)

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Writer Beware (R) site. There our traveling kitty pilot found a post about Artificial Intelligence-generated (AI-generated) written material.

 

There's a lot of AI written garbage.

The post contains a letter written to the US Copyright Office by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA). The letter was sent in response to the Copyright Office's request for comments about AI issues with "creating" material. The SFWA believes AI-generated work should be uncopyrightable. The letter lists the reasons why from a writer's point of view. Then, if at a point in the future the Copyright Office does decide to allow AI work copyright status, the SFWA lists four criteria which should be met.

Panzer says, "It all makes sense to this little kitty."

Dogging the Watchdog: In Which a Scammer Tries to Troll Me - Writer Beware (R)

She is a writer's best friend.

Today, Panzer made a quick trip to the Writer Beware (R) site. There your favorite traveling kitty boy found a post about a scammer trying to troll site owner Victoria Strauss.

 

In the post Victoria Strauss gives examples of some of the things scammers have tried to do to her in the past. They've tryed to get her kicked out of SFWA and they've included instructions in their scam manual about how to discredit her. She then describes what the latest scammer is doing. This one is impersonating her to make her look bad. The post includes links for all the assorted things scammers have tried to do over the years.

Panzer says, "You know you're doing your job, when the bad guys are afraid of you, and, obviously, this scammer is afraid of her."

Introducing the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association - SFWA Site

Good move.

If you've followed your favorite kitty boy for a while now, you know he likes dragons and unicorns and sf/f conventions. So it's no surprise he made a stop at the SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America) site today.

 

According to the SFWA's landing page, the organization changed it's name to Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association. Since the organization also has members in countries other than the U.S., the name change is appropriate.The membership guidelines have also been changed.

Connie Willis and Neil Gaiman to Host the 57th Nebula Awards! - SFWA

 Today Panzer's trip into the Catosphere took him to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America's (SFWA) site. There our sci-fi and fantasy loving kitty boy found information about the SFWA Conference and the Nebula Awards.

 

According to the post at the SFWA Nebula Awards page, authors Connie Willis and Neil Gaiman will be co-hosting the Nebula Awards at the conference. The page includes a link to the Nebula finalists. The Nebula presentations will be on May 21. It will be online and free to attend.

The SFWA Conference will be May 20 - 22 and also online. The charge for the conference will be $150.

 

It's not easy to use.
