Powell's Books Makes Layoffs Across Departments - Publishers Weekly

I didn't know they have three stores

Panzer stopped at the Publishers Weekly site and found a post about the indie bookstore Powell's Books.

 

According to Nathalie op de Beeck, to cut expenses Powell's did a round of layoffs this week. Like many brick and mortar bookstores, Powell's has had a hard time recovering from the pandemic sales slump.

Authors' Class Action Lawsuit Against OpenAI Moves Ahead - Publishers Weekly

There's more news out there.

Today as Panzer was napping he was shaken from his kitty bed by clapping coming from the Catosphere. Jumping in the Panzermobile, he followed all the noise to the Publishers Weekly site. There he found a post about a lawsuit filed against OpenAI was causing all the racket.

 

According to Jim Milliot's post, a judge refused to dismiss the lawsuit against OpenAI. The class action is about copyright infringement and GPT output to certain prompts. The post includes links to information about other lawsuits.

 

Panzer says, "This little kitty saw the Authors Guild is involved in this lawsuit just like the Anthropic case."

We're having the gutters and downspouts removed. Then repairs to the roof. Then new gutters and downspouts put on. 

 

It's a noisy dirty process. Not a pleasant work environment for Mom or this little kitty.
